Galactic Funk is the new album from Eric Terdjman. 13 tracks that fuse Eric's love of all things jazz, electronic and hip-hop make up this remarkable collection, from an artist the world is soon to know a whole lot about.
After years of experimenting with a variety of forms, Eric has settled down to make an album of pure Electro-Funk. Galactic Funk is all energy, soul, beats and groove. Not often does an album emerge of such depth, ambition and purpose in this genre of music.
This is an album that fuses a soul rhythm with futuristic affects on Eric's vocals. The mood is one that evokes the funk heyday of Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye and James Brown, yet Terdjman opens a box of studio tricks to give his songs an added dimension. The music of Funkadelic and Sly Stone is dragged into the 21st century, perhaps. Throw in a drop of ambient and a bit of the Gnarls Barkley groove, and you have Galactic Funk.
Eric is deeply proud of his French origins, something that comes through in his compositions. He is at the heart of the burgeoning French 'touch' movement, despite being based in Israel.
So eclectic and original is Eric's sound, he defies definition. Taking inspiration from funk, electronica, jazz, soul, rap and rock, his follow-up to 2005's magical Rebirth album sees him finding a sound completely his own. He counts among his influences Air, Daft Punk, Jamiroquai, Miles Davis, Pat Martino, Saint Germain, Bob Sinclar and David
Getta.
Eric made almost the entire album on his own playing guitar, bass and singing. An artist and a technician, he has found the perfect balance between production and creativity in this autonomous approach to music making.
His work has met with much critical acclaim over the years. His first album moved Spacecityrock.com to comment: "Whether you're a jazz aficionado, a casual fan or a c!omplete neophyte, I'd heartily recommend Rebirth. While it's good music first and foremost, it's also reassuring to know that the essence of jazz can be perpetuated using today's electronic media tools."
Guitar Nine Records said of the same record: "It's only after several listens that one can appreciate how subtly and cleverly Terdjman weaves his guitar in and out of the compositions. With his experience in jazz, classical, rock and funk, Terdjman manages to pull it off something quite
intriguing."
Rebirth is currently ranked 15 in the funk section at mp3tunes.com. Furthermore, Eric's former band, acid-jazz outfit Eclyptics, were placed number one in Vitaminic 2003 (Mp3 France) in the of category electro-funk. Other validation of Eric's music comes with his collaboration with famous French producer Stephan Pirot and singer Aurele Ricard for a short film entitled Ou Est La Tete.
The CD's title Rebirth highlights a turning point in Terdjman's life when he decided to focus on electronic jazz as a solo artist. The title cut has a great groove and free-flowing, carefree energy, which both reflects and
affirms an apparent ease and comfort for the artist as he embarks on this path in the new jazz medium.

Eric was born in France (though he now lives in Jerusalem), and starting learning classical piano at eight years old. He soon realised this was not the path for him, after being inspired by a rock band he saw at a circus. His dad bought him a guitar, and he spent the rest of his adolescence and young adulthood as an extremely successful musician.
At 23 he and a friend discovered the limitless possibilities that technology could offer. Eclyptics formed in 2001, and proved to be a highly affective vehicle for Eric's talent. However, he soon found himself overflowing with ideas, and released Rebirth in 2005. His second album is one that takes electronic music and funk to even more new and exciting places.
And there is more to come. Eric's restless artistic ambition means he is already considering the future. He says: "My vision is to make one album in this style of music, then make another album in another style of music. My last album was electro jazz, the new one will be more electronica."
